Background Statement

Founded in 2006, Crean Lutheran has grown to over 1150 students from throughout Orange County. CLHS places high value on personalized education. Accordingly, CLHS maintains a 21:1 average class size. Students may follow various academic tracks, including those designed to meet the elevated standards of the University of California’s A-G subject requirements or customized to meet the admission guidelines for elite private institutions. A wide array of
academically rigorous honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, as well as dual credit courses, support these tracks.

CLHS is part of the renowned Lutheran education system, which has been educating students for over 165 years. The National Assessment of Educational Progress compiled evidence of Lutheran education excellence; their data shows Lutheran schools score significantly higher than all other schools, including public, Catholic, charter, and other Protestant schools (Christopher Lubienski, “Charter, Private, Public Schools and Academic Achievement,” p.3). Additionally, Lutheran school students score 23 percent higher than national averages on standard achievement tests (Brekke, M., Youth Research Center).

Crean Lutheran holds the highest level of accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Needs Statement

Crean Lutheran continues to experience significant enrollment growth. With this growth, we are an experiencing needs in several areas.

1) Campus Expansion - Gymnasium and food court construction, and renovation of the event center. These are necessary facilities for our campus community. $18MM-$22MM.
2) Financial Aid Support - $250K. With growth there is need to provide additional tuition assistance.
3) Program support for missions, cohort programs, and athletics: $250K.

Crean Lutheran attracts and serves students from throughout Orange County. Students come from Irvine, Tustin, Orange, Santa Ana, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Newport Coast, Newport Beach, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, Rancho Santa Margarita, and other cities.
