CEO/Executive Director Experience
Everett L. Glenn is a pioneering sports attorney and President of ESP Education & Leadership Institute (Institute). The Institute is a 501c3 non-profit organization that is equipping student-athletes, in particular those from under-resourced communities and schools, with the tools to not only adopt an academic and life balance; to model it as standout athletes; to advocate it among their non-athlete peers; and to use their influence among their peers to remove the obstacles they see in their path to exceling academically and joining the ranks of the successful. There’s also a Train the Trainer aspect, with the end goal of combating the “inner-city youngsters are only athletes” stereotyping in society. Before establishing the Institute, Everett managed the careers of a host of professional athletes, bursting onto the sports scene in 1983 when he negotiated the richest contract in NFL history for a rookie wide receiver, and the first lifetime income contract in NFL history for All-American and Olympic sprinter/hurdler Willie Gault. During his sports career, Everett represented 13 other NBA and NFL 1st round draft selections and 4 Hall of Fame inductees. In the process, Everett became the first Black agent/attorney to represent multiple 1st round draft picks in the same NFL draft (twice) and remains the only agent/attorney of any ethnicity to represent multiple 1st round picks in the NBA and NFL in the same draft year (twice). Before launching his sports career, Everett was a corporate attorney specializing in sophisticated commercial and real estate matters first with the firm of Guren, Merritt, Sogg & Cohen, then Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Arnoff and, after relocating to the Bay Area, with what was then one of the largest law firms in the country, Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe. His corporate clients ranged from Fortune 100 companies to government agencies, to real estate developers and entrepreneurs, including Apple, Levi Strauss and Wells Fargo Bank. A sought-after speaker and commentator, Everett’s opinions have been featured in Black Press USA, CBS, Huffington Post, and Inside Sports. He continues to raise important issues at the Intersection of Race, Sports & Money in a Huffington Post blog, and is a regular contributor to Huffington Post’s “Black Voices” segment. Everett has also appeared twice on Tamron Hall’s News Nation on Weekends with Alex Witt and NBC News . A 1974 graduate of Oberlin College, Mr. Glenn received his law degree from Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Glenn is a member of the State Bar of Ohio and California. Everett is the proud father of 4 sons, Justin, Jared, Jonathan & Daniel and grandfather to Everett II and Emil. He is married to his best friend and confidant, Debra, who serves as Deputy Chief Counsel in the Los Angeles office of the Office of Chief Counsel for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
