Youth Services - United Kids and Teens Program

United Kids and Teens is a trauma-informed after-school program for low-income children PreK through 6th grade and youth 7th through 12th grade. The target population is students who are ineligible and/or inadequately served by other after-school programs due to behavioral health concerns. The majority of children/youth come from mixed immigration status households and have experienced one or more adverse childhood experiences such as persistent poverty, inequality, and violence in their homes and neighborhoods. The United Kids program is currently offered five days per week at Valencia Park Elementary School in Fullerton, California. We emphasize social-emotional learning through playful engagement with the goal of helping students find their voice and advocate for their needs in healthy ways. Throughout the year, and culminating each summer at our Solful summer school in July, students are empowered to identify specific dreams for their neighborhood and present their solutions to local decision makers such as the school board, police department, and city council. The United Teens program is currently offered five days a week at Nicolas Junior High in Fullerton for 7th and 8th grade students, and three days a week at our Gilbert Community Center in Fullerton for 9th through 12th grade students. Program activities include tutoring once a week, local outings once a month with program staff and volunteers, and quarterly events with a partner nonprofit.
