PROGRAMS

Concerts for Fifth Grade

Four pairs of concerts explore orchestral music in its historical and cultural contexts. Programs, which take place in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall , feature the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Johannes Muller Stosch. Pre- and post- student and teacher materials help to prepare the students for their experience. This program is free for students.

Budget
$35,000
Outcomes

This program exposes 5th grade students to classical music, performed by student musicians not much older than themselves. The students become familiar with the concert hall and again an emphasis is placed on concert deportment. They hear fine classical music played by the Orange County Youth Symphony. The goal is to inspire curiosity in students to seek out additional musical learning experiences. This peer-led model is also inspiring for our young musicians who perform as a part of the Orange County Youth Symphony.

Digital Music Mobile

This 5-part learning curriculum is designed to introduce elementary-aged students to the instrument families of the orchestra. Either student-led or teacher-led, these modules can be tailor-fit to any classroom wanting to learn more about instrumental music. The curriculum also offers extensive teacher resources, classroom material and take-home activities and concert opportunities for participating students and their families.

Budget
$10,000
Outcomes

Introduce students grades 2-5 to the instruments of the orchestra through virtual teaching tools such as music examples, musicians interviews and listening guides. Increase music appreciation and inspire curiosity to seek musical experience out elsewhere.

Strike Up the Band

This application-based program grants musical instruments and resources to K-12 schools to enhance and grow their existing music programs and provide for the creation of new music programs, benefitting 2,500 youth. This is an enormous assistance to low-income families who cannot afford to rent or purchase a musical instrument themselves. Since this program’s inception, the Philharmonic Society has granted over $250,000 worth of instruments and supplies to local schools.

Budget
$30,000
Outcomes

Support area music programs with resources to make their specific program more successful.
