Visions Global Empowerment

Education

Every child deserves the right to attend school and receive a quality education. The educational reality for countless children worldwide, however, is fraught with hardships, shortcomings and neglect. Visions works hand-in-hand with local partner organizations as ‘allies in development’ to survey, craft, implement, finance and oversee meaningful education programs that address the many challenges youth face at all stages of their education. These interventions are customized to the specific needs, culture and realities of each unique community, always with the intention of strengthening local civil society and empowering local stakeholders to ultimately take full agency over this work in the long-term. Interventions may look like a network of after-school learning and empowerment centers for rural youth in India; a vital set of holistic services for Deaf children at our Hawassa Center for the Deaf and Visions Academy School for the Deaf in Ethiopia; a residential boarding school for girls on a 437-acre campus in the cloud forest of Matagalpa, Nicaragua; or mentorship, scholarships and internships for unemployed youth in Sri Lanka.

Leadership

In most countries, personal leadership & life skills development is not part of the standard curriculum or the overall educational experience of youth, especially for those who hail from underprivileged communities facing hardship and marginalization. Yet, the opportunity to develop these personal abilities and talents is essential to realizing one’s full potential and leading a more meaningful life. Utilizing our own curriculum that has been developed, vetted, and adapted continuously since 2003, we aim to shape engaged, informed, and socially conscious youth leaders and global citizens at all levels, including primary & secondary school children, university students, professionals and organizations.

Technology

Worldwide, an estimated 750 million people are illiterate, 263 million children are out of school, and hundreds of millions more attend schools in classrooms that are under-resourced with educators that lack proper training. The proliferation of digital learning resources and platforms has transformed the field of education throughout the world, but it has yet to reach the vast majority of those who need it the most. Visions seeks to bridge that gap by addressing the challenges of access to hardware, electricity, internet and instruction, and making high-quality learning content and virtual collaboration possible through technology. In particular, TabSchool is a major initiative committed to developing and delivering offline, high quality e-learning resources to under-resourced children globally through providing a collaborative, open-source digital platform offering tools for both creating and sharing high quality e-learning content for any language.
