Background Statement

Youth-on-the-Move, Inc., was first conceived as the Young Brothers Association in 1986 in Sacramento, California. The purpose was to provide summer activities for young men ages 5-18 during their summer break and while their parents were working. The program secured community role models of all professions, cultures and talents to mentor the young men and to interact with them--at the business of the role mode or at other locations. At the end of summer (1986) parents and community asked if we could continue as an after school program--and to include girls. The BOD agreed and the name was changed from "Young Brothers Association" to "Youth-on-the-Move Inc." Since then, we have positively impacted thousands of young lives throughout California and even throughout the country and overseas. Military personnel, law schools, and many others adopted our program and began to give in many ways. Today we are in Orange County, California continuing to make a difference and to impact lives--especially concerning inter-generational relationships and activities. Because of a societal need to honor effective educators--especially retired educators; we have created a program to honor retired humanitarian educators, the International Educators Hall of Fame. The purpose is to honor, uplift and have both groups of people (retired educators and youth) interact and help one another -- wisdom, patience and gentleness with energy, curiosity and enthusiasm. The seniors act as one group of “positive community role models, coaches, etc.
