Background Statement

BGCLH has been serving youth from La Habra, Brea and Fullerton in North Orange County and East Whittier and La Habra Heights in Los Angeles County since 1955.  We operate in a 32,000 sq. ft. facility that includes two junior high size gymnasiums, a recreation room, community multi-purpose room, teen center, recording studio, dance studio, education center, Digital Fabrication Lab, music classroom, teaching kitchen, kindergarten and first grade (K-1) recreation room, and a newly renovated Center of Hope with arts and crafts, DIY Stem, and an area for social-emotional health.  We conduct our after school programs at five elementary schools in the Lowell Joint School District and nine ASES units located on the campuses of the La Habra City School District.   BGCLH programs support academic, social and physical development and are offered Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Impact Statement

Through our programs, BGCLH Club members develop leadership skills, positive behavior, life skills and a healthy lifestyle. We engage children in fun, educational activities that support their academic success, and expand their thinking about the possibilities for their future.

Needs Statement

BGCLH's priority goal is for all youth involved in the Club to graduate from high school ready for college, trade school, military or employment. We provide a safe space and educational support programs for youth who come from predominantly Latino/Hispanic households, where poverty, housing density and shared living conditionals, adult literacy, high crime rates, drug use and family dysfunction often affect the stability of the home. 80% of families qualify for federal free/reduced meals, 88% of students in La Habra are Hispanic/Latinx, and 31% are English Language Learners.
