Fund A Friar Tuition Assistance Program
There are two primary goals for the Servite Fund A Friar Tuition Assistance Program: 1) To provide a Servite education to as many qualified students with demonstrated financial need as possible. The number of students receiving tuition assistance and the amount of tuition assistance provided have increased annually since 2006, when 18% of students received $300,000 in aid compared to 55% and $3,539,145 this year. 2) To support and inspire students who receive tuition assistance in such a way that at least 90% of these students will graduate from Servite and go on to college. Over the last ten years, 95% of students receiving tuition assistance graduate from Servite and 98% of those who graduate from Servite go on to pursue a college degree.
The primary anticipated result of the Tuition Assistance Program is to provide more young men from economically underserved backgrounds with the opportunities they need to be successful in college, career, and life. Our Formation Program aims to form high school boys into men of strong character, who lead in their careers, their families, and their community. Over the last ten years, 95% of students receiving tuition assistance graduate from Servite and 98% of those who graduate from Servite go on to pursue a college degree.
Servite has established the following criteria to monitor the progress of students who receive tuition assistance:
1. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher; those who fall below a 2.5 GPA are required to attend summer school and participate in after-school study in the library until they meet the GPA requirement. Servite allows for some exceptions to the 2.5 GPA requirement for students who have learning challenges, such as dyslexia, ADD, etc. In fewer exceptions, allowances are made for students going through traumatic family circumstances, such as medical emergencies, divorce, or loss of a parent.
Servite monitors student academic performance, work-study and community service hours, leadership involvement, and other accomplishments. Students who have a ‘D’ or ‘F’ in a class, participate in required ‘Study Hall,’ and have access to student mentoring and help from teachers. The vast majority of students who receive tuition assistance meet these requirements. In rare cases when students do not show the necessary progress to meet these criteria, Servite informs parents that their sons will not be eligible to continue to receive tuition assistance.
2. Students must meet Servite requirements for completion of 100 Community Service hours by graduation.
3. Families receiving tuition assistance must support one of Servite’s fundraising efforts for financial aid by selling 5 raffle tickets for our Fashion Show or selling items from our annual Christmas Tree sale.
Trinitas Arts Conservatory
Trinitas Arts Conservatory is an award-winning after-school theatre program for students of Servite High School and Rosary Academy. Trinitas is the successor program of Tri-School Theater, which also included Cornelia Connelly High School before its closure in 2020. Building on the legacy of Tri-School Theatre, TAC strives to focus on the student personally, artistically, and spiritually. From weekly conservatory classes in acting, technical theatre and musical theatre to main stage shows to our hilarious Comedy Sportz improv team and our Thespian Troupe (go #4566!), Trinitas Arts provides it all in a Christ-centered environment.
Our desired outcome is to foster student development through artistic expression, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of the world, while also providing opportunities for collaboration and self-discovery. Theatre can engage students who might not otherwise be interested in academics, catering to different learning styles and fostering a sense of community.
Student Support Services
Servite High School's Student Support Services Program provides an individualized approach to a student's education, fostering greater academic success and personal growth. As an all-boys school, it is critical to recognize the neurodiverse population we serve. Statistics show that boys are twice as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia and four times more likely to be diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Many students struggle with sustaining attention and retaining information. These factors contribute to academic difficulties and general challenges in executive functioning. Servite offers different levels of support, and students are placed according to their specific needs. We offer individual coaching, academic achievement classes, and specialized instructional opportunities, as well as specialized tools such as cognitive-based software.
This program improves student academic outcomes, addresses behavioral challenges, and fosters a positive learning environment, ultimately leading to increased student success and well-being. An additional benefit would be increased enrollment and retention of students who need support in these areas.
Servite Robotics Team 3309
The mission of Servite Robotics is to inspire students to develop STEM skills in an enthusiastic, student-driven environment through community outreach and partnerships with mentors and sponsors. Students, along with knowledgeable mentors, work to design, build, and field a competitive robot which performs a specific game task. Additionally, team animators create game and safety animations that are judged by FIRST. The co-curricular competition season begins in January with the announcement of the game challenge for the year, and continues through the second semester. Many of our students will work throughout the year, including summers, to hone their robotics skills.. Founded in 2009, the team has won regional and state competitions, bringing them to the world robotics championships. In the past year, the Friarbots have earned semi-finalist and finalist rankings in Los Angeles and the Central Valley and won the Entrepreneurship Award for “presenting themselves more like a well-established corporation than a high school robotics team.” Previous robotics and/or programming experience is not required to join the team. Mentors, moderators and team members are available to help new members learn the tasks that are of interest to them, whether that means being machine-trained or leaning CAD or programming. Members also utilize their writing, animation and photography skills to publish Servite TV segments, promotional videos, marketing materials, and the team website.
Participation in Servite Robotics Team 3309 offesr numerous benefits, including enhanced STEM skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership, while also fostering a passion for technology and potentially leading to future STEM careers. Graduates have gone on to college and careers at companies including industry leaders like Google, Blizzard, Raytheon, Boeing, and Facebook.
