Boy Scouts of America Youth Development Programs
Cub Scouts: Cub Scouts is an active program for boys and girls, first through fifth grade, that encourages learning, friendship, and most of all fun! Boys and girls learn by doing, and there is no end to the fun things that Cub Scouts do with their families, Cub Scout Packs and at special events. Camp under the stars. Tie knots. Visit a police station. Shoot a bow and arrow. There is no limit to the fun things your Scout will do. For more than 80 years, Cub Scouts has provided fun for millions of children around the country and that fun awaits your child today! From building his own Pinewood Derby Car to roasting the perfect marshmallow, your child will love being a Cub Scout. And the adventures that they will embark on are endless! Camping, swimming, climbing, archery, sports, you name it, Cub Scouts offers it. Scouts BSA: Most children avoid obstacles. Scouts seek them. They live for an opportunity to display their abilities while learning new skills. Camping is fun. But surviving a downpour in the middle of the night, that’s an adventure. Cooking over a campfire is fun. Learning which wild berries are edible is survival. Spending a weekend in the woods is fun. Breaking camp without leaving a trace is admirable. These are invaluable experiences that can be had in Scouting. These are life lessons that transform today’s Scouts into tomorrow’s leaders. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with over four million youth members in its age-related divisions. Scouts BSA is designed for youth 11 through 18. Since Scouting’s founding in 1910 as part of the international Scout Movement, more than 110 million Americans have been members of the BSA. Sea Scouts: Sea Scouts is a co-ed program for youth 14 to 20-years old, or 13-years old and have graduated from 8th grade. The program consists of leadership and character development set in a maritime environment. Each unit is called a ‘ship’ but may or may not, have a vessel. Orange County is home to five Sea Scout ships, which are nationally and internationally acclaimed. In the past decade, local sea scouts have won four international sailing championships, two ships were honored as the top program in the nation, and three sea scouts were selected as the top youth-leader in the nation. Venturing: Venturing is a youth development program for young men and women who are 13 and have completed the eighth grade, or age 14 through 20 years of age. Venturing’s purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens. Exploring: Exploring exists to teach important life and career skills to young people from all backgrounds through immersive career experiences and mentor-ship provided by community and business leaders. Together, we equip young people with character, leadership and life skills that can be used both today and in their future careers. Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Businesses and community organizations initiate a career-specific Explorer post or club by matching their people and organizational resources to the career interests of youth in the community. The result is a program of interactive activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop. We work with hundreds of local, regional, and national businesses and organizations to deliver these programs representing hundreds of different career fields.
