OUR STORY

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.

Background Statement

The Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area was founded in 1967 to provide local youth with a safe and supportive place to grow. A gymnasium was added in 1976 to support fitness and athletic programs, and in 1992 the Club expanded to include a teen center, a second gym, meeting rooms, and administrative offices, doubling its capacity to serve the community.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America began in 1860 in Hartford, Connecticut, with the creation of the Dashaway Club, founded on the belief that young people deserve positive alternatives and opportunities. The movement grew nationwide in 1906 and became Boys & Girls Clubs of America in 1990. In 2006, the organization celebrated 100 years of empowering youth across the country.

Impact Statement

Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area serves hundreds of youth ages 6-18 annually. We focus on the three priority outcomes of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship. Our goal is to serve more members more often. It is our hope that the more members we reach and the more they are in our Club, the better outcomes they will have in our three priority outcomes. We are able to serve youth Monday - Friday from 2:00pm - 6:30 pm and during the Summer and other Holidays we are open from 7:30am-6:00pm.

Needs Statement

We are in need of support towards our general operations that directly supports our mission and supporting youth in the 3 priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship. There are many opportunities to volunteer and financially support our organization as a whole or specific programs like athletics, Brain Gain, Keystone, and many more programs that focus on specific areas of a child's development.
