Caecilia Gotama, PE, LEED AP, FASME Caecilia Gotama holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Fullerton, and an MBA from the Graziadio School of Business at Pepperdine University. A licensed mechanical engineer, LEED-accredited professional, and Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), she has also served on ASME’s Board of Governors. Her professional excellence and community leadership were recognized with the “Vision and Visionary” Award from California State University, Fullerton. As an engineer and business leader, Caecilia believes that talented students should have the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world challenges. This belief led her to found BRDG – bridge to Connect, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering first-generation and underrepresented college students pursuing engineering, computer science, and other STEM fields. At the heart of BRDG is the BRDG Innovation Challenge, a hands-on, team-based program that bridges the gap between academic learning and workforce readiness. Students work collaboratively to identify and address real-world sustainability challenges, developing innovative technology-driven solutions with guidance from experienced industry coaches and subject-matter experts. Throughout the program, students gain practical experience in problem-solving, teamwork, communication, leadership, project management, and business development; skills essential for success in today’s workforce. The Innovation Challenge goes beyond developing a project. It gives students the opportunity to experience what it means to work as an engineer, innovator, and entrepreneur. Through mentorship, hands-on learning, presentations, and interaction with industry professionals, students build confidence, expand their professional networks, and learn how to turn ideas into solutions with meaningful community and environmental impact. Caecilia’s vision is rooted in the belief that innovation should not be limited by a student’s background or access to professional networks. By creating opportunities for students who may not otherwise have access to industry mentors and real-world experiences, BRDG helps prepares the next generation of STEM professionals to become confident problem-solvers and leaders. “The ability to solve problems and create knows no boundaries, class, race, or gender. And yet, the training to become an effective problem-solver remains mostly accessible to those who already know someone in the field. As the world calls for more critical thinkers, it is our responsibility in the technical community to open doors for the next generation.” — Caecilia Gotama
