Background Statement

The California Council on Economic Education (CCEE), established in 1959, is dedicated to advancing economic and financial literacy among California’s K–12 students. Through teacher training, innovative programs, and classroom resources, CCEE equips educators to inspire students with essential knowledge about personal finance, economics, and entrepreneurship. By fostering critical thinking and real-world problem-solving skills, CCEE empowers young people to build brighter financial futures and contribute to a thriving economy.

Serving over 180,000 students annually—75% of whom come from low- to moderate-income backgrounds—CCEE bridges opportunity gaps with impactful programs like the Personal Finance Challenge, the Stock Market Game, and the National Economics Challenge. Through educator training, hands-on learning, and student competitions, CCEE ensures that young people across California gain the tools and confidence to make informed decisions, pursue their goals, and contribute to economic progress.
