Artists and Creatives Grants

Our Artists and Creatives Grants provide financial support - generally up to $2,500 - to independent creatives (including collectives and collaborators) making or presenting creative work relating to or encouraging community engagement. We primarily support projects taking place in Southern California but will occasionally fund those further afield that match our guidelines. We are committed to helping projects that depart from the routine and present new, distinct and imaginative possibilities. We especially encourage applications from those who have been historically excluded from the mainstream art world. This includes, but is not limited to, those who are Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Trans, Deaf, Disabled, Immigrant or Refugee, or Self-Taught.

Outcomes

Since our inception, we have awarded $835,755 in grants to 205 unduplicated artists and creatives. Our Artists and Creatives Grant recipients are enriching their communities through art, murals, videos, storytelling, music, and placemaking. Their innovative and inspiring projects have positively impacted thousands of people throughout the world.

Creatives-in-Residence

Our Creatives-in-Residence program broadens the traditional definition of community building and artist residencies. The program invites residents living in affordable apartment communities to participate in creative placemaking collaborations with artists, families and neighbors. Community Engagement supports the growth of this movement by providing training and funding to our Creatives as we work together to develop place-based programming.

Budget
$60,000
Outcomes

Over the past nine years, the Creatives-in-Residence program has impacted more than 14,000 individuals in eight low-income housing communities in three states. Currently, we have two active Creatives-in-Residence: Erin Sotak at Whispering Pines in Phoenix, Arizona and Genevieve Hastings at Art Ark Apartments in San Jose, California. Throughout the year, both Erin and Genevieve successfully engage all members of their communities through projects such as neighborhood murals, art shows, public service initiatives, and holiday activities.
