PROGRAMS
Music Program
Vocal, instrumental and musical theater
Students will develop an appreciation for music instruction and performance. All students perform several times and year and specialized performers, including the rock band, perform at special events outside of school. Students will be able to continue to study music appreciation, after completing the program and advance in high school and at the college level. We have now graduated many students who have gone on to become professional musicians and music educators.
Extended Day Program
The Extended Day Program is an enrichment program aimed at helping students academically and a place where students find a variety of enrichment activities and lessons to develop many different skills and knowledge. For those enrolling in the program there are three different sections: 1. Students who participate in the program every day and attend regular classes. These students must participate in enrichment classes. They can opt for a second enrichment class depending on age, space, and other teacher criteria. 2. Students who participate in the program every day and attend intervention classes. Enrichment will be provided for this group as well. These students have the highest priority at the time of enrollment. 3. Students who only attend the program to take enrichment classes. Enrichment classes include Art, Music, Dance, Drama, Chess, Coding, Robotics, Math clubs, and many other opportunities.
The Extended Day Program supports students that are performing below grade level in areas such as Math and Language Arts. The students are assessed periodically to monitor academic progress. El Sol uses benchmark assessments and state data to assess student growth. The goal of the program is for all students. About 70% of the students are referred by the teacher to exit the intervention classes that are part of the Extended Day program. Students who participated in the extended day program have had significant gains as compared to those students who did not participate. El Sol works with classrooms teachers and extended day staff to target specific skills that students need in order to make gains on assessments and statewide tests.
