Irvine Barclay Theatre's Global View Series

IBT's Global View Series showcases internationally-focused, culturally-diverse programming with input from leaders of traditionally underserved audiences. Its goal is to deepen and expand the role the Barclay plays in the community by presenting programs and activities that appeal to new constituencies, while fostering cross-cultural awareness, appreciation, and understanding through thoughtful and community-responsive programming.

Budget
$200,000
Outcomes

The outcome of the Global View Series is that audiences experience performances that are both entertaining and eye-opening, connecting them to cultures and traditions from around the world. By presenting artists such as Zakir Hussain, Mishran, Soweto Gospel Choir, Luis Bravo’s Forever Tango, and Shakti, the Barclay creates opportunities for discovery and appreciation of music and dance beyond our own borders.

Audiences benefit not only from the performances themselves but also from opportunities to engage more deeply through talks, master classes, and meet-the-artist events. The result is a series that broadens perspectives, strengthens cross-cultural understanding, and makes every performance feel like a shared celebration of Orange County’s diversity.

Irvine Barclay Theatre's Hawaiian Series

Irvine Barclay Theatre’s Hawaiian Series celebrates the music, dance, and traditions of Hawaii, offering audiences an authentic cultural experience. Building on the Barclay’s reputation as a leading presenter of world-class artists, the series brings both legendary performers and emerging voices to the stage. Each performance highlights the artistry and storytelling at the heart of Hawaiian culture, creating memorable experiences for audiences of all ages.

Budget
$150,000
Outcomes

The series goes beyond performance by incorporating opportunities for community engagement. Artists participate in workshops, talkbacks, and educational programs, giving audiences and students deeper insight into the meaning and traditions behind the art form. By presenting this series in Orange County—home to a large community with ties to Hawaii—the Barclay strengthens cultural connection and provides a welcoming space for sharing heritage.
