Laguna Dance
PROGRAMS
Educational Components
Laguna Dance offers master classes and a week long intensive for young artists. We also include educational lectures during our festival, Meet the Artist events, dance films and demonstrations. A very popular educational program is the creating a dance, live rehearsal. A choreographer leads dancers through a live rehearsal allowing the audience to learn about technique and the subtler aspects of dance development. As of 2025 Laguna Dance has expanded and partnered with Laguna Beach Unified School District, creating dance curricula for 2nd graders that integrates movement with math, social studies, and cultural history. This fills a gap in arts access while supporting cognitive development.
Laguna Dance has presented world-class dance performances on stage, film, and public spaces to expose new audiences to professional concert dance.
2100 students have attended dance classes and workshops, 75 educational classes, and over 100 scholarships were awarded to emerging dance artist. We have curated more than 65 free Art Walks and hosted over 35 principal guest artists with over 22,000 audience members reached, gaining an appreciation for dance and athleticism. Our Festival has featured more than 60 top-tiered international, national, and regional dance companies. Laguna Dance has not just transformed the stage, but united our community through the power of movement. This year Laguna Dance will expand education programs with Laguna Beach Unified School District, creating dance curricula for 2nd graders that integrates movement with math, social studies, and cultural history. This fills a gap in arts access while supporting cognitive development. We will be deepening partnerships with the Laguna Art Museum for Art & Nature, and with the Philharmonic Society to merge live music with dance in performances at the Laguna Playhouse
Main Stage Festival
Since 2005, Laguna Dance has presented more than amazing 60 companies and countless stars of dance including Misty Copeland who did a book signing for our young ballerinas. This year 2026, Laguna Dance will be featuring SMUIN Contemporary Ballet from San Francisco, VERSA-STYLE Street Dance Company from Los Angeles and an evening with live music in collaboration with the Philharmonic Society of Orange County and Laguna Community Concert Band.
The last few years Laguna Dance has collaborated with the OC Philharmonic, offering live music for some of the dances and in return, Laguna Dance provides several specifically choreographed pieces for their music festival. Wrapped around the main event are lectures and demonstrations, and master classes.
Tickets sales are strong and at least one performance sells out speaking volumes to the quality of artists presented.
Summer Stage
Beginning in July/August 2026, Laguna Dance launches its new annual Summer Stage Festival, themed this year, "WE The People". The festival brings together professional artists, emerging dancers, and pre-professional students in an intergenerational environment to work with choreographers representing a wide range of lineages and perspectives. Marking a significant expansion of the organization’s programming, the festival offers immersive training, professional work opportunities, performance experiences, and meaningful creative exchange that reflect Laguna Dance’s commitment to artistic excellence and community connection.
This year WE The People 2025. Friday and Saturday Rennier Harris' Puremovement with their suite of works challenged the structural integrity of Campbell locking, house, hip-hop, and B-boying dance to audience at The Laguna Playhouse.
Sunday, Voices Unbound, the culminating performance of Laguna Dance's inaugural three-week artist residency and performance series. This residency offers a glimpse into what it means to create and premiere new works here in Laguna Beach. Over three weeks, artists at every stage of their career have had time and space to explore, take risks, exchange ideas, and create art together.
Professional dancers from across the nation have worked alongside emerging artists, sharing their individual voices while learning from and inspiring one another. Our studios have become a place for meaningful collaboration, exceptional dance education, and mentorship.
