Mission Statement

To provide health care and temporary housing for homeless animals and actively search for loving, permanent homes for those animals in our care. We like to say that Our Cats Save People (OCSP).

Background Statement

OCSP Cat Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit rescue agency founded in Orange County to save the lives of homeless, abandoned and shelter cats. We strive to expose all our cats to a healthy and happy environment while searching for permanent, loving homes for each and every one of them. In 2009, OCSP Cat Rescue began with a handful of passionate volunteers attending one adoption event every weekend at only one location. Sixteen years later, OCSP Cat Rescue has four Orange County locations with adoption events every weekend! This would not have come to fruition without our committed volunteers. We are so fortunate to have individuals of all ages share their desire to support the rescue effort! They share our belief that our cats’ welfare is of utmost concern and is always priority one. We also value our relationship with our adoption partner, Petco Love. The retail space Petco provides houses four or more cats per store and each is cared for daily by our cat-loving volunteers. Petco Love is an integral part of our success as it provides visibility to the public in a pet-promoting atmosphere.  OCSPCR cats that are not housed in the retail environment are cared for in attentive foster homes. We constantly search for those willing to open their homes and give their time to nurturing a shelter cat or cats. Our foster application can be found on our website, OCSPcatrescue.org, or obtained at an adoption event. It is only after careful consideration that an applicant receives the green light and enters our foster network. We work closely and consistently with the foster family to ensure that the cat is happy and thriving in the new surroundings. A healthy, contented cat is an adoptable cat!

Impact Statement

As a group, we have made a firm commitment  to the health of each and every cat in our care, and to adopting out healthy cats with vet documentation as proof.  Our solid reputation with the managers at Petco provided us the opportunity to house cats at four catteries to our roster. In 2025 people continue working from home and are able to foster the cats that are not ready for the Petco environment. We are grateful that we are attracting volunteers with a strong knowledge of social media, and they are now responsible for posting our adoptable cats on Facebook, Instagram and Petfinder, as well as posting requests for more volunteers on such websites as VolunteerMatch.   As we approach our 16 year anniversary we are still going strong!  One of our permanent goals is to attract more fosters each year and to create a network that can foster all ages, from bottle-feeder kittens to senior cats that may just need supportive, hospice care.   We are encouraged by the response we’ve received on social media, and we are looking for new ways to use social media for fundraising.

Needs Statement

We always have a need for FOSTERS and VOLUNTEERS.  Our volunteers check on kennel cats daily to clean litter boxes, refill food and water bowls, and socialize cats. Our organization also needs funds.
2025 projected costs are as follows:  Major Med: $90,000 General Med: $110,000 Supplies-Fosters: $20,000 Supplies- Kennels:  $9,000 Marketing: $4,000  TOTAL  $233,000. Major medical = life-saving or life-changing surgeries or treatments for situations that arise without any warning.  General medical = FeLV/FIV testing, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and microchip.    Foster supplies - all food, all litter, beds, food and water bowls, treats – anything needed to make the cat happy, well-adjusted, and ready for adoption.  We believe that the ability to supply these items to fosters would encourage them to foster, as well as encourage new fosters to join our team. Petco Love has been able to supply SOME but not all of our food, litter and cleaning supply needs.  We would like to to save volunteers from reaching into their own pockets. Finally, funds for marketing would allow us to create an adoption packet with useful information for adopters.
