Endowment/Capital Campaigns
Are you currently in a Capital Campaign? Yes
Capital Campaign Purpose:
We are currently doing a Capital Campaign for a minivan to transport rescue dogs and attend events. Transportation is becoming ever more problematic for transportation of rescue dogs and attending the many events we attend, as we now use separate cars and take multiple trips to pick up booth items in addition to the dogs. To date, we have either rented minivans or cancelled our attendance/not attended events if there are transportation issues. The solution to this escalating challenge is for the rescue to have transportation. Initially we looked into truck type vehicles. After measuring the footprint of these truck type vehicles, we found they do not work for the size of crates needed for our dogs (even using the smallest crate we can) and do not allow for seating beyond the front seats when those are filled. Then, we looked at larger cargo vans and found that seating for three or four people is problematic. In addition, the length of the cargo van would make it more challenging to garage or store. Lastly, we researched minivans with fold-down-into-the-floor seating. Minivans will allow the flexibility of providing additional seating, adding more crates and/or hauling more booth items, depending on the use needed at the time. Minivans also have the width for two crates to be side by side in rows, allowing us transport up to four crated dogs at a time, with enough extra space to add wood framing to create over-crate or under-crate space. The cost of the vehicle will depend on when we make the purchase and availability of the van with our preferred features. As often is the case, it seems it will be more economical if we purchase our van off a dealer’s lot rather than to special order it. To best estimate the total cost of owning a vehicle, we have researched the annual expenditures for insurance, registration, maintenance, storage, and the one-time purchase of a wrap to identify the vehicle as a rescue van. In our wish list, we have detailed the additional expenses of owning a vehicle..
