PROGRAMS

Street Services

The Street Services program is SPIN's original program, started by its founder, Sam Boyce, in 1987. Street Services is run almost exclusively by volunteers who prepare hundreds of sack meals and distribute them to Orange County shelters and homeless encampments, often including warm blankets, sleeping bags, jackets, rain ponchos, hygiene kits, referrals, and more.

Budget
$30,000
Outcomes

The program is successful because it brings one of life's basic necessities to people who are otherwise unable to obtain them - food and nutrition.  At the same time, it also offers resources and connections to services to those who are homeless and don't know how or where to get help.

New Start Family Housing Program

Through housing assistance, wrap-around case management, and financial literacy education, SPIN support families as they stabilize and work towards self-sufficiency. Rental assistance is structured to promote rapid stabilization while families gain the skills and knowledge necessary to become self-reliant, allowing SPIN to responsibly steward donor dollars and extend support to more families in need.

Budget
$1,500,000
Outcomes

Grounded in SPIN's decades of family housing experience, the New Start Family Housing Program reflects a responsive, community-driven approach to family homelessness. New Start will help families regain stability sooner, reduce the impact of homelessness on children, create better long-term outcomes, and build a clear path toward permanent housing and greater self-sufficiency.

Corporate Social Responsibility Program

Through fun, team-building, community give-back activities, corporations/businesses and community groups can join together to build basic needs kits for the families we serve. Kits range from move-in baskets, to winter warmth kits, to school supplies, and more. The host group provides the man-power and the funding for supplies; the SPIN team handles procurement, transportation, and supervision for these fun, energy-filled, and meaningful mobile projects. These activities allow the host groups to demonstrate a culture of caring, and put much-needed supplies in the hands of those who need it most.

Budget
$58,000
Outcomes

In 2025, SPIN served over 2200 individuals - and successfully housed 61 families - providing them with wrap-around case-management services, which includes these basic needs kits. SPIN hopes to double the number of individuals and families served in 2026 and make an even further impact on the estimated 400 families in Orange County who are homeless each year.
