Young Artists Program
Young Artists is our flagship music education, leadership training, and academic scholarship program. Auditions are held annually, and the 2025-2026 concert season will mark the 22nd year of Young Artists. Each member of our Young Artist cohort receives the opportunity to work closely with our concert production team in crafting a solo performance, accompanied by full orchestra, that is then presented free of charge to the Orange County community. We also award our Young Artists an academic scholarship to support their studies.
We have produced many notable alumni who go on to enjoy international renown as performing artists and/or musical educators, as well as to achieve success in fields beyond music. For instance, at least 5 Young Artist alumni have been featured winners on NPR's From the Top, including 17-year-old cellist Eiline Tai. Our Young Artist alumni often cite their experience in the program as having a direct positive impact upon instilling a drive to give back to the community and helping them build the skills for success in their future careers -- whether or not music becomes their primary vocation. An example is concert pianist Dr. Melissa Marius, a Young Artist alum who returned to the SoCalPhil after completing her graduate training as a legal scholar, and who currently serves among the organization's key leadership.
