Celebrating Over 80 Years of Service in Newport-Mesa

Assistance League of Newport-Mesa began in 1940 in Newport Beach with a small group of women wanting to make a difference in the lives of children. Our four philanthropic programs are completely self-funded through grants, endowments, fundraising events and proceeds from our on-site shops.

The Newport-Mesa Chapter of dedicated member volunteers gives over 12,000 hours of service each year to operate our programs. Our programs helped 2,500 children in the Costa Mesa and Newport Beach communities in just the last year.

The philanthropic programs of Assistance League of Newport-Mesa, the Cheri Harris Dental Center, Operation School Bell®, The Kids on the Block, and Scholarship Program are staffed by member volunteers and funded through proceeds from our Thrift Shop, Treasures on Consignment, fundraising events, grants, endowments and private donations.

Many children in the Newport-Mesa community are going without essential resources that directly affect their ability to learn, thrive, and succeed. As living costs continue to rise, families are increasingly unable to afford basic necessities such as school clothing, shoes, books, and dental care, needs that are critical to a child’s health, confidence, and academic success.

Assistance League of Newport-Mesa exists to bridge these gaps by providing programs that address the immediate and ongoing needs of local students and families. Through Operation School Bell, AL’s Closet, the Cheri Harris Dental Center, scholarships, teacher grants, and youth volunteer leadership opportunities, we help ensure that children have the resources they need to succeed in school and in life.
