Ana Nogales, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist, founder of Nogales Psychological Counseling, Inc., and Casa de la Familia, which she established in the year 1996 for victims of trauma. She oversees a clinical staff of 40 bicultural-bilingual mental health professionals and an outreach program for domestic violence and sexual assault victim services in Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside Counties. Dr. Nogales was recently appointed as the Women Graduates-USA Violence Against Women Working Group Chair. WG-USA is the USA affiliate of Graduate Women International (GWI), the leading girls’ and women’s global organization run by and for women, advocating for women’s rights, equality, and empowerment through access to quality education and training . Dr. Nogales' professional career is anchored by her commitment to combat violence, especially violence against women and children. She uses many avenues of communication, including the media and is an award-winning author, playwright, and songwriter about mental health issues. The author of four books, Dr. Nogales' newest release is Latina Power: Using Your 7 Strengths to Say No to Abusive Relationships provides practical information and resources for women facing domestic violence and was awarded First Place at the 2011 Latino Literacy Now International Book Awards, the largest Latino literary and cultural awards in the USA. Dr. Nogales' innovative curriculum for adolescents LaTEENa Power! 7 Inner Strengths for Creating Success is aligned with the California state standards and designed for use in schools and community groups throughout the country. Dr. Nogales’ previous books include award-winning Parents Who Cheat: How Children and Adults Are Affected When Their Parents Are Unfaithful (HCI Books.); Latina Power! Using the 7 Strengths You Already Have to Create the Success You Deserve (Simon & Schuster); and Dr. Ana Nogales' Book of Love, Sex and Relationships: A Guide for Latino Couples (Broadway Books). An accomplished playwright, Dr. Nogales' most recent play, Don't Call Me Baby! deals with the explosive issue of human trafficking. Dr. Nogales wrote her first play, De Sabios y Locos, to help raise awareness and combat the stigma about mental health issues within the Latino community. De Sabios was recently presented in Orange County for Mental Health Awareness Month through a grant from the Orange County Health Care Agency and will be presented in Los Angeles County in Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. She has been a featured speaker at numerous workshops and conferences throughout the U.S., including the Women, Power and Peace Conference at the Omega Institute and the Women’s Foundation, as well as at conferences in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Buenos Aires. She is a speaker/consultant for several universities throughout the United States, such as Northwestern University, USC, University of Albuquerque, Shirley Fearon Training Institute, UCI, Vanguard University, Southern California University, and several others. Featured regularly in the media, Dr. Nogales has hosted her daily talk show "Aqui Entre Nos" (Just Between Us) which aired mornings at 8:30 am on La Voz, with the highest ratings of the station, and on Canal 22 KWHY TV in Los Angeles. Dr. Nogales has also hosted a weekday morning program for W RADIO 690AM. In addition, Dr. Nogales wrote a weekly column for La Opinion (Los Angeles) for seventeen years and continues to write for mainstream periodicals and blogs, including PsychologyToday.com and Para Todos Magazine. In 2011, she launched her online magazine on health, psychology, and lifestyle: Doctora Ana, Salud Psicología y Vida as another outlet to provide information and resources for the community. Dr. Nogales was a contributor for the FBI Child Exploitation/Pornography Work Group, contributor for the Diversity Work Group Victims of Crime in Washington, D.C., and an Instructor for the National Victims of Crime Academy. Dr. Nogales is also the Clinical Director for the Sexual Assault Services Program, a grant awarded by the Office of Violence Against Women, Department of Justice. Dr. Nogales is currently on the Board of Directors of Las Comadres para las Americas, an international Latina women’s networking organization. She is the past president of the Board of Directors of the California Women's Commission on Addictions, and past board member at 2-1-1 Orange County, an information and referral organization linking Orange County residents to community health and human services and support, and WTLC a shelter for women and children. The recipient of numerous awards (see complete list below)*, including the Crime Survivor’s Victim Advocacy Lifetime Achievement Award, the Heritage Humanitarian Award by the United States International Mission and One Million Kids, the Humanitarian Award by Soka Gakkai International (SGI) and SGI-USA, among others.
