OUR STORY

Our mission is clear: to protect the people and places we love by advocating for policies that clean our air, protect our health, and build resilient communities.

Mission Statement

Our mission is clear: to protect the people and places we love by advocating for policies that clean our air, protect our health, and build resilient communities.

Background Statement

At Climate Action Campaign (CAC), we are committed to protecting our families, health, and environment by reducing pollution and promoting sustainable solutions. For over ten years, CAC has led groundbreaking efforts to secure innovative, community-driven actions that prioritize equity and drive meaningful change. Our mission is to create a healthier, safer, and more resilient future by advancing clean energy, enhancing active and public transportation, and investing in the communities most affected by pollution and climate impacts. We believe in transformative solutions that benefit both current and future generations.

Impact Statement

Since 2015, CAC has emerged as a regional leader and has reshaped the climate policy landscape in Southern California and beyond. By demonstrating the effectiveness of community-driven action, we have inspired other regions to follow suit, amplifying our impact and catalyzing broader change.

Following the adoption of the city of San Diego’s groundbreaking Climate Action Plan, 23 states have followed, showcasing the ripple effect of local policy action.

We've passed Climate Action Plans (CAPs) in 16 out of 18 cities in San Diego County and expanded our reach into Orange County, resulting in 9 OC cities committing to developing a CAP, highlighting our replicable efforts across regions.

We launched three nonprofit public power programs in Southern California bringing renewable power to over 1.2 million people. Those programs have been recognized as top clean power providers in the US.

Our lawsuit against the City of San Diego secured a landmark victory, mandating annual greenhouse gas reduction targets and requiring actions by the city to realign and course correct their priorities and policies, setting a new standard for transparency and accountability in climate action.

Success for us means communities are organized to drive meaningful climate action. To measure our impact effectively, it's crucial for our organization to track not only the number of policies passed but also their depth, the level of community engagement, and the extent of their replication in other regions.

Needs Statement

Our planet is overheating, and the people and places we love are at risk from irreversible damage to our health and our future.
This is not just an environmental crisis—it’s a public health emergency. Every day that we delay action, we expose our communities to unnatural heat waves, severe droughts, catastrophic wildfires, and deadly air pollution. We must urgently transition away from fossil fuels to 100% clean energy and redesign our schools and communities to survive in a hotter and drier world.
