Arts & Culture News
At least three times a week, stories are published documenting the arts and culture landscape in Orange County. Specifically, we focus on music, theater, dance, visual arts, cultural activities, food and drink, literature and annual events. Stories include previews, reviews, event coverage, “news you can use,” profiles and critical analysis. We also publish press releases for news and events we're not able to cover through original stories. Our team of writers consists of some of the most experienced arts journalists in Orange County. As local, for-profit news outlets pare down their arts and culture coverage, those writers have joined our team. We are also developing the next generation of writers through mentorships with our experienced staff.
Arts journalism has historically helped artists find new audiences, connected organizations to their communities, and created a shared conversation about culture. As traditional newsrooms have cut arts coverage, those connections have weakened – artists have fewer opportunities to be discovered, organizations increasingly promote their work in isolation, and audiences have lost trusted guides to the cultural life around them. Culture OC works to rebuild those connections. We act as an amplifier for artists and organizations, exposing their work to new audiences, provoking thought around creative work, and shining a critical spotlight through reviews to help push it to become even better. Through cultural journalism, we provide a broader take on culture, including lifestyle issues, societal debate and reflective ethical discussion.
