PROGRAMS

CARE

Our Care programs help educate, disseminate information, encourage collaboration, and drive the best care practices to support patients with Duchenne. CureDuchenne offers an array of impactful educational opportunities and resources for physical therapists and allied healthcare professionals who treat those with Duchenne. We offer professional courses and the CureDuchenne Certified Physical Therapist® and Occupational Therapist Programs to enable healthcare professionals to improve the lives of those affected and slow the progression of some of the disease impairments. Additionally, we have opened two CureDuchenne Clinics providing multidisciplinary care assuring access for all to the most cutting-edge treatments and protocols.

$2,168,893
Outcomes

Our interactive education and outreach program continues to serve as a vital resource for parents, caregivers, physical therapists and allied health professionals. For more than 20 years, we have provided comprehensive resources, information and best practices, improving the quality of life for individuals living with Duchenne. We have trained 1,755 physical and occupational therapists to date and the number of patients receiving care at our clinic in Texas is over 430.

CURE

CureDuchenne invests in early-stage, novel technologies, such as next-generation exon-skipping and gene therapy, to overcome the limitations of existing therapies. Our organization’s “stamp of approval” drives significant future investments in these projects — accelerating the potential life-changing treatments out of labs and into clinical trials and approved drugs. We have also created a data-integrated biobank which is an accessible and valuable resource for researchers working toward a cure.

Budget
$4,500,000
Outcomes

CureDuchenne is a proven leader in Duchenne research and innovation, investing funds into early-stage research to demonstrate proof of concept and safety to allow projects to rapidly advance into clinical trials. This approach, along with CureDuchenne’s diligence and stamp of approval, helps bring in the significant funding required in later stages, from other investors, to bring potentially lifesaving treatments to individuals who need them.

We have funded 19 research projects that have advanced to human clinical trials so far, as well as supported the companies responsible for six of the eight FDA-approved drugs for Duchenne. We’ve made tremendous progress, and individuals with Duchenne have more effective therapeutic options than ever before, but the reality is that none of the therapies available today will do enough to truly stop the disease in its tracks. CureDuchenne’s work is far from over.

COMMUNITY

Our community programming, education, and advocacy efforts are designed to connect families with each other and the Duchenne community, and empower those with Duchenne to live joyful, meaningful lives while we improve care and accelerate treatments. We offer educational and support-based programs nationwide through virtual and in-person events, webinars, workshops, and 1:1 informative sessions to help individuals living with Duchenne, their families, and caregivers navigate the Duchenne journey. CureDuchenne FUTURES is an annual, national conference that connects families with the top scientists, clinicians, and with other families in the community to offer them an opportunity to learn and build lasting relationships.

Budget
$2,889,092
