Didi Hirsch – Orange County
Didi Hirsch is the official 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline service provider to residents of Orange County. Our hotline is open 24/7 and is completely free of charge to anyone facing a mental health crisis or worried about a loved one. Orange County residents can call, text, or chat on our hotline and a trained counselor will provide support and share helpful resources. Didi Hirsch also provides specialized suicide support to residents of Orange County. We are one of the few organizations in the region to provide suicide-specific services to the community. Didi Hirsch provides group therapy for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, survivors of suicide attempts, and those in high-risk professions, such as first responders and healthcare workers. We also provide individual counseling for individuals who are at risk of suicide and aftercare services to those who have been discharged from hospitals after a suicide attempt. In addition to these direct services, we provide training and outreach to students, teachers, parents, law enforcement officials, first responders, medical professionals, mental health professionals, and other community members in how to recognize and effectively respond to the warning signs of suicide.
People reach out to our crisis lines for a variety of reasons that can include substance use, anxiety, loneliness, or depression. Among those who report an intent to harm themselves, three out of four helpseekers improve this intent level after speaking with our crisis counselors. For those who require additional interventions, our counselors are trained to call in-person support.
Clients receiving counseling report significant improvements in suicidality, feelings of hopelessness, grief, and other factors that contribute to suicide. Because Didi Hirsh pioneered the group therapy model for Survivors of Suicide Attempts, we have trained over 350 group facilitators and our manual has been downloaded over 3,000 times from facilitators across the world.
