Veterans Program

The Veterans Services Center is an initiative at Irvine Valley College to nurture a welcoming campus culture for our veteran students. It is founded on the premise that the challenges faced by veterans may be addressed through a combination of services stressing academics, camaraderie and wellness. Veterans currently have the opportunity to experience these essentials in a one-stop site staffed by specialized staff who empathize with the issues with which veterans struggle, and which they must address to help themselves achieve success. The Post 9/11 GI Bill provides educational benefits for 36 months. Veterans receive $2,500 Board and Housing Benefit while enrolled in 12 units Student Veterans do not receive pay when the college is not in session

Budget
$80,000
Outcomes

IVC Veterans have an 87% graduation rate. Our persistence rates increased 14% over one year due to our support services in our one stop shop. IVC Supports their veterans in all areas including housing, providing a food bank and emergency funds. Long term success will allow our Veteran Students to have all their education paid for while they are at IVC and leave them with their Veteran's Benefits to be available for their 4 year or postgraduate study. Our long term success is measured by the outcomes, data and measures we continually collect to assess and promote positive, holistic services to our veterans.

Student Equity

The Office of Student Equity offers support to disproportionately impacted communities of students in order to help promote success for every student at Irvine Valley College. We recognize that some students face more barriers to success than others and that these barriers are often built through unequal access to power and privilege. The purpose of this office is to both address these barriers to success as well as offering tailored support specific to the needs of each impacted student community. Our current programs include support for LGBTQIA+ students, Dreamers and undocumented students, current and former foster youth, students aged 25 years and older, women of color, and those facing food and housing insecurity. Additionally, Irvine Valley College is a federally recognized Minority Serving Institution (MSI) and the Office of Student Equity supports this service by running multicultural programming and events on campus as well as virtually.

Budget
$150,000
Outcomes

The Irvine Valley College Office of Student Equity provides programs, support services, and initiatives that promote access, course completion, ESL and basic skills completion, degrees, certificates and transfer. The CCC Student Success Scorecard and student success indicators inform the decisions of the Irvine Valley College Student Equity Task Force to ensure the campus is implementing programs to help better serve students from backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in higher education. The Student Equity Task Force consists of faculty, staff, administrators, and students who meet monthly to discuss current measures supporting student success and how to expand our services and impact.
