OUR STORY

The mission for Just Cure It is to support those who were recently diagnosed or know people who were recently diagnosed with cancer or other life-threatening diseases.  My name is Christina Bennett. I formed this 501(c)(3) charity with a group of friends in February 2020 to help others who, like me, have cancer.  In 2019, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After 2 surgeries I was very relieved to be pronounced cancer-free.  I was fortunate in that my doctor was able to catch it early during a regular mammogram, and that the team at my local Hoag Hospital is amazing!

For the last 6 years we have run a tennis tournament at Newport Beach Tennis Club to raise funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation. We typically have over 500 players, and to accommodate all the matches for the last 3 years have run it over 2 weeks, with doubles the first weekend and singles the second weekend.  When you are first diagnosed you have so many questions and concerns, we support The National Breast Cancer Foundation, that I found to be so informative and helpful at a key time in my life, and at least 75% of donated funds are used in cancer research and the charity's other aims.

Impact Statement

For over 30 years National Breast Cancer Foundation has helped women around the world by educating them about breast cancer and the importance of early detection, and we are proud to have donated almost $100,000 over the last 5 years.

Needs Statement

Breast cancer death rates have declined 44% since 1989 among U.S. women. The progress is attributed to improvements in early detection and treatments, according to the American Cancer Society. This means that more people are being diagnosed with breast cancer, and so our work is even more important to help those people.
