Keep them Home
Description: Launched in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Keep Them Home is a one-of-a-kind program designed to help pet owners in crisis keep their dogs and cats in their existing homes—preventing unnecessary surrenders to shelters. We provide essential items such as food, vaccinations, flea control, toys, bedding, leashes, halters, blankets, ramps, stairs, and even doggy strollers for seniors. We promote the program during fall and winter—times when layoffs rise, COVID cases historically surge, and families often face the most financial stress. Over the past few years, this program has helped more than 74 families and kept 157 pets safe, loved, and out of shelters until their owners were able to regain stability. Keep Them Home has proven especially beneficial for senior citizens and their senior pets, helping preserve the bond between people and the animals they love.
The impact of our Keep Them Home program has been extraordinary. Over the last five years (2020–2024), we’ve helped more than 105 families keep 198 dogs and cats in their homes during times of financial hardship. Many of these families included senior citizens for whom their pets are their primary companions—and often, their lifeline.
This program not only kept pets out of overcrowded shelters but also preserved the deep emotional bonds between people and their animals. It has been a humbling and powerful reminder that, when a community comes together, we can achieve remarkable things for both pets and the people who love them.
