Women Veterans Transition & Emergency Services

Our Women Veteran Transition and Emergency Services provide women veterans and their children with urgent financial relief to navigate life’s obstacles, make successful life transitions, and serve as a safety net when unforeseen events occur that place them at risk of homelessness. We help women veterans adopt healthy money management skills and provide the assistance they need to stay in their homes, advance their degrees, gain employment and care for their children. Our financial assistance provides short-term high-impact stipends for rent, childcare, utilities, and other emergency costs. Through our partnership with Prudential and PsychArmor, veterans complete online financial wellness education and create a working monthly budget as a perquisite to receiving assistance. Financial assistance stipends are paid directly to property owners, licensed childcare providers, or other appropriate third parties. Our childcare assistance addresses one of the most challenging issues in transition and is the only program of its kind in the country. While transitioning, veteran mothers are often faced with childcare costs that are nearly double what they paid while active duty. For example, according to the 2019 Child Care in State Economies Report by the Committee for Economic Development, the average annual care cost for one infant in a high-cost state like California is $16,542. In comparison, annual military installation childcare facilities in 2019 ranged from about $3,000 to $8,400 per child. Our assistance offsets the exuberant childcare costs for working and student veteran mothers so they may have the financial security to attain their career and educational goals. Veterans who do not have licensed providers are still able to access our financial assistance to cover other needs such as rent or utilities, thus freeing up funds to cover childcare expenses. We also screen our clients on overall wellbeing upon inquiry and identify external community services and resources to address the variety of needs that typically arise during intake, including but not limited to, legal assistance, mental health counseling, employment coaching, and access to skilled training. Through our warehouse located in Vista, CA, we distribute necessities such as new and unused baby supplies, clothing, and other critical household items to reduce costs and ensure our women veterans and their children have their most basic of needs met. Our professional development cohorts and financial workshops ensure women veterans enhance vital skills for transitioning into the civilian workforce, begin to expand their professional networks, and build women veteran support networks. Through our partnerships with Prudential, Accenture, Fortune's Most Powerful Women, Amazon, and other partners, we lead interactive sessions on topics such as budgeting, networking, interviewing, navigating career change, employment opportunities, leadership, negotiating salary, and more.
