OUR STORY

Transforming our Community's Heartfelt Intention into Greater Impact for Good.

Mission Statement

Transforming our Community's Heartfelt Intention into Greater Impact for Good.

Background Statement

The Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF) transforms our community’s heartfelt intention into greater impact for good by working with local donors and nonprofit partners as an expert advisor and innovator. We serve as a resource for individual and family philanthropists, facilitate grant and scholarship programs, and lead community-based initiatives. We inspire giving and connect people and resources to create sustainable impact, granting more than $1 billion since 1989 in Orange County, across the country, and around the world.

Impact Statement

It has been a momentous year for the Orange County Community Foundation. OCCF is home to more than 650 charitable funds benefiting a wide range of causes. In fiscal year 2024, annual contributions reached $160 million and we awarded $86 million in grants to nonprofits making an impact locally, nationally and around the world. OCCF has now granted more than $1 billion since our inception. The generosity and passion of the people of Orange County have put OCCF in the top 1% of grantmaking among more than 780 U.S. community foundations.

OCCF continues to expand our work in the community with several initiatives including the following:

The OC Opportunity Initiative came together to ensure that Orange County seizes immediate opportunities to uplift every sector of our community. By ensuring the full participation of our immigrant communities, Orange County will see positive health and educational outcomes for all residents while strengthening the social and cultural fabric of our community.

The Orange County Veterans Initiative is aligning donors, businesses and community leaders to address critical needs for veterans and their families transitioning out of the military back to civilian life in Orange County.

Our OC Nonprofit Central database continues to be an incredible tool for connecting hope and help. A first-of-its-kind online resource designed to inform, inspire and engage local donors and volunteers, the OC Nonprofit Central database launched in July 2013. There are currently more than 500 nonprofit profiles with in-depth information published on OC Nonprofit Central. With a few simple clicks, OC Nonprofit Central helps donors connect with the causes they care about most.

Needs Statement

At the Orange County Community Foundation, we look for opportunities to lead and for leaders who make great partners. We invite you to join us by lending your ideas, experience, time or resources to make a lasting impact on our community. Take a look at our work in progress and see what inspires you!

The OC Veterans Initiative addresses the issues facing veterans returning home from service. Our goal is to help Orange County veterans achieve a successful transition from military service to a civilian life that offers steady employment, stable housing, and a secure future for them and their families.

The contributions of generations of immigrants have shaped Orange County throughout our history, and our future depends on successfully incorporating the skills and talents of our diverse communities. The OC Opportunity Initiative helps immigrants realize their full potential through outreach, education and legal services to ensure their full participation in the economic and civic life of our county.

Our OC Nonprofit Central website shares information on hundreds of local nonprofits working in the areas of human services, education, the environment, veterans services, health and wellness, arts and culture, and youth development. To learn all you need to know, visit Nonprofit Central.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

At the Orange County Community Foundation, we believe in the power of philanthropy to unlock the potential of all who call our county home. Why? Because we have the unique privilege of working with the best hearts and minds in Orange County, from passionate philanthropists to visionary CEOs to innovative nonprofit leaders fearlessly tackling the toughest and most entrenched challenges in our community. Driven by compassion and generosity, they are compelled to make a difference. To lighten a neighbor’s load. To ease the burdens of those struggling for basic survival. To instill hope for children and families living in the margins.

The Orange County Community Foundation is honored to play our part in this story. As a steward of donors’ philanthropic visions and their resources, a trusted partner and leader of a growing body of community leadership work, and as a resource for nonprofits working relentlessly in pursuit of their valiant missions, we add our voice to the chorus of hope, of inspiration, and of love for our community. We witness the transforming power of inspired, thoughtful and well-directed philanthropy every day. Thank you for being part of our story and for letting us be part of yours.
