The overall objective is to ensure that all participants have a fun, safe and empowering experience and in turn, set in motion the RAD ripple effect. Firstly, campers gain valuable experiences and confidence in a nurturing environment. At RAD, they are all about celebrating abilities, not disabilities. Secondly, caregivers receive much-needed respite they so deserve. Then, volunteer counselors of all ages develop a sense of awareness of the Disability Community through motivational workshops and sessions on Disability Awareness, where volunteers can go forth and exercise our mission of Rising Above. The retention rates of our volunteers speak volumes about how transformative the RAD Camp experience is... Recent statistics show that 86% of volunteers return year after year, 50% of volunteers will volunteer with us for 5 years or more and 21% will select a college major or career in service to people with special needs (Doctor, RN, Special Education Teacher, Occupational Therapist, ABA, and even Disability Advocacy and Law!). We hope that by offering these opportunities to our community members, we can work to make the world a little bit more inclusive every day.
