OUR STORY

Charity on Wheels' mission is simple. Rescue and restore people who are struggling with poverty and homelessness.

Since 2013, Charity on Wheels has been committed to reducing homelessness in Orange County by providing, in Jesus’ name, food, clothing, and hope to those in need. With the help of corporate sponsors, church partners and generous volunteers, we meet people right where they are—on the streets—offering not just resources, but dignity and a path back to self-reliance.

Each week during our outreach and engagement events, our volunteer-led teams serve hundreds of individuals, sharing meals, building relationships, and reminding them they are not forgotten.

Our weekly Outreach Teams head into the community to forge relationships through consistent weekly engagement and bring help where it’s needed most:

    1. Shelter Outreach serves over 200 people at local shelters with coffee, fruit, and vital resources.

    2. Monday Street Outreach reaches 100 individuals by visiting local parks and motels with hot meals, hygiene kits, and essentials—opening the door to real connection and change.

    3. Senior Grocery Delivery Program - delivers nutritious groceries to 150 Senior households each month and offering intentional “care time” through companionship, encouragement, and friendship

We also host weekly Engagement Gatherings at our Anaheim facility, including:

    1. Monday Rest Center is available with lunch, clothing and access to resources for shelter and employment.

    2. Wednesday Night Dinner serves an average of 80 to 100 people each week with sit-down meals, live music, and access to resources such as clothing, hygiene and food pantry items. Our guests are showered with love. No one leaves without an encouraging word and many are changed (both visitor and volunteer) after attending.

    3. Movie Nights and Seasonal Events like our Unbroken Women Luncheon, Thanksgiving Feast and Christmas Gift Giving Tree offer a positive and encouraging community of support.

Every meal, every handshake, every fresh set of clothes—these small acts open hearts and change lives. But we can’t do it without you.

Your donation makes all of this possible. A gift of any amount helps us continue providing life-changing assistance and offer people “A Hand Up, Not A Hand Out”.

Please consider giving today—because every contribution brings someone one step closer to hope, healing, and self-reliance.

Mission Statement

In Jesus' name, to care for the homeless, the sick, and the broken. To rehabilitate and restore people struggling with homelessness.   Charity on Wheels mission is based on Matthew 25:34-40

Background Statement

Charity on Wheels began providing resources to the homeless in 2012. Inspired by his faith in Jesus Christ, Zach Southall began giving out food, toiletry items, and bicycles from the back of his truck on weekends. Hence the name "Charity on Wheels". The ministry quickly grew into a partnership with the Salvation Army and the launch of two weekly gatherings which have been successfully ministering to the homeless since 2013.

Impact Statement

In the last year Charity on Wheels has: Put on 52 homeless gatherings, provided over 4000 meals to people living on the street and handed out over 2000 help kits; including shower passes, toiletry items, bus passes, etc. Provided weekly support to thousands of people fighting homelessness through one on one mentoring, resume services, job placement, and housing assistance. Transitioned 14 people off the street (NOT PUT INTO SHELTERS). These people have reentered the workforce and are supporting themselves. Charity on Wheels' goals for this year are to: Open a second weekly homeless gathering,Hire a full time social worker, Increase the number of people we transition off the street. Train an additional 50 volunteers. Train 5 Volunteer Leaders who are equipped to run events and meet with people.

Needs Statement

Charity on Wheels most pressing needs are: 1. Funds to pay for our monthly rental facilities (storage and gathering facilities) 2. Funds for transitional housing scholarships (we provide first, last, & security for vetted individuals and families). 3. Retail space to open up a thrift store 4. Funds to pay for the hiring of a full time case/social worker.

Geographic Areas Served

The homeless crisis has not spared any of Orange County’s 34 municipalities but some cities have shouldered more weight than others. Charity on Wheels focus area is the City of Anaheim because of its higher density of homeless, followed by the bordering cities of Fullerton, Placentia, Orange and Santa Ana.

Top Three Populations Served
  • Homeless Individuals
  • Seniors/Older Adults
  • Veterans
Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

There is not a "one size fits all" solution to homelessness, and if you don't correctly assess and address the root cause for each individual you will fail to truly rehabilitate anyone; to the point that they are able to become self-reliant. Charity on Wheels system takes longer but produces better and more sustainable results. The current landscape of homeless providers and service agencies in Orange County does not ascribe to a long term approach to rehabilitating homeless people. Proof of this can be seen in the ever growing number of homeless and the short-sided practice of dumping homeless in emergency shelters. Due to the high attrition rate of individuals falling back into homelessness (after receiving assistance) it is our opinion that the cost of the homeless problem in Orange County will continue to grow unless a more holistic methodology to dealing with this problem is adopted.
