Susan has been the President of SoCal Animal Response Team (SCART) since 2005 and is on the Leadership Council for Orange County’s Collaborating Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD-OC), representing Animal Services. Susan was a member of the N-DART (National Disaster Animal Response Team) for the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)from 2005-2011. She coordinated several disaster teams for the Humane Society of the United States to respond to the Lamar Dixon Exposition Center in Louisiana. The teams provided support with animal sheltering and search & rescue in Louisiana following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 and she was the coordinator (2004-2011) for HSUS's Disaster Animal Response Team and Emergency Animal Sheltering Training and an instructor for DART and EAS from 2007-2011. She represents SCART at Orange County Emergency Management Organization (OCEMO). She was a member of the California Emergency Services Association; Southern Chapter (CESA) and is a recipient of the Silver award for a private citizen. Susan responded, as a member of SCART in the 2007 Santiago Fire, assisting with the horse stables and well-approving SCART funds to help replace horse supplies lost in the fires. She also responded for SCART to the Canyon 2 Fires in 2017 at El Modena High School, where she and other members of SCART set up a temporary animal shelter next to the Red Cross shelter.
