The mission of Straight Talk Clinic is to make available a variety of mental health, substance abuse, and rehabilitative services to individuals and families in need for whom access or utilization of such services is limited, restricted, or otherwise unavailable.

Founded by a group of active parents, Straight Talk Clinic was initially a local community response to growing evidence of illicit drug use among children and teenagers attending local schools. Within 4 years, the agency was sustaining a range of outpatient drug prevention and treatment services to hundreds of Orange County families per year, the majority (63%) reporting family incomes below poverty level. By 1997, The agency operates 2 outpatient clinics (Cypress and La Mirada); no-cost services for on-campus student counseling programs in over 9 school districts;10 community care-licensed residential facilities; a 6,000 square-foot Developmental Disabilities Day Center in Signal Hill; Gerry House, Gerry House West & Start House. The agency also begins to operate the Cypress College Swap Meet as a fundraising partnership between Straight Talk and the College. In 2019, Straight Talk Clinic decides to move their Cypress office to Santa Ana in order to better serve all of Orange County.

We are honored to have met the mental health needs of Orange County residents for nearly five decades, contributing to improvements in the overall mental health of our community. Some of our most recent achievements are; Our partnership with the City of La Mirada. With their support, we have been able to provide low cost mental health services to the residents of La Mirada since 1984. In 1990, Straight Talk’s Gerry House was founded as a nonprofit substance use program.  To this day, the program continues to provide coed alcohol and substance abuse treatment services to individuals 18 and over with options for aftercare for twelve (12) adults for up to 90 days in a residential setting. In 2019, GH received Drug Medi-Cal Accreditation.  In the same year Straight Talk opened up our South Coast Metro location. The SCM location is a comprehensive mental health program offers affordable, high-quality counseling to help people of all ages improve their mental health and overall well-being in a safe, supportive environment, regardless of their financial means.We look forward to the opportunity to continue bringing about positive changes in our community as a result of our programs. 

As a community, we are living through unprecedented times. The pandemic spotlights both existing and new barriers to accessing mental health and substance use disorder services. We are looking to partner with Schools and City Programs to address and treat the root cause of mental health disparities in Orange County. Here are the top 5 of needs for Straight Talk Clinic.
□ Coordinate with the Orange County Health Agency to make mental health support affordable and accessible to the residents of Santa Ana
□ Expand service capacity to the residents of Santa Ana
□ Increase Suicide awareness outreach and education in the Santa Ana community
□ Partner with Schools to provide early mental health prevention education and parent /training support□Establish new community in-person youth programs (ie. SOY, High Schools, etc.) with students at home

I became involved with Straight Talk Clinic because the mission is near and dear to my heart. As a Board Member I have had the privilege of watching STC grow into an exceptional nonprofit dedicated to making our community healthier and more resilient. Straight Talk Clinic exists to improve the availability and utilization of mental health services in Southern California at a cost affordable to the underserved. For the last 53 years, our program services have reduced barriers to mental health treatment and ensured that every individual WHO walks through our doors has the opportunity to receive quality mental health support. Our centers will focus on the widespread impact of trauma as we continue to empower Southern California clients and their families.
