PROGRAMS
Orange County Autism Education and Support
TACA’s Education and Support Program provides families living with autism real and immediate help and hope through quality educational programs that provide relevant information and resources, as well as comprehensive support initiatives that help families take action to improve their health and wellness. We have expanded it to include virtual as well as in-person services to better serve the increased needs of the autism community resulting from the pandemic. This programming provides unique educational, social, and legal assistance, equipping families with the knowledge and skills needed to help their children reach their full potential.
In 2023, TACA provided resources and support to more than 8,000 Orange County parents, caregivers, and children/youth diagnosed with autism.
Parent Mentorship Program
TACA’s Parent Mentors are experienced, trained, supported, and qualified mentors that guide parents on the autism journey. They provide general suggestions and information about autism-related topics including medical insurance, behavioral issues, navigating the school system, medical treatments, and dietary interventions. This program is unique in the autism community. The focus is to help speed up the cycle time from the initial autism diagnosis to effective treatments.
Parents gain the confidence to independently seek therapies and treatments for their children. When surveyed, 64% of the parents stated they gained a minimum of two tools, methods, or resources to support their child.
Family Support Events
TACA’s Family Support Events foster the intellectual and emotional well-being of children and families affected by autism by providing them with a safe and supportive environment to connect with and learn from other families facing similar circumstances. The events provide children with special needs a safe and supportive environment, where they can practice learned social skills and increase their social awareness. Parents/caregivers are given the opportunity to connect with one another, learn from each other, and begin to build a support network. In addition, siblings of children with special needs learn they are not alone. They meet other siblings that share their experiences living with a brother or sister with special needs.
In 2023 TACA hosted the following six family support events throughout Orange County: 1) Volcom and TACA; Everyone Can Skate -April; 2) Teen and Adults Transition Resource Fair – May; 3) Family Carnival at Oak Canyon Park – June; 4) Summer Fun at Atlantis Park – August; 5) Fall Festival – October; and 6) Sensitive Santa -Holiday Festival - December. We anticipate that more than 3,000 children and their families will attend at least one of the events. Our 2023 survey indicated 98.5% of parents/caregivers felt safe in a judgment-free environment. It also denoted 100% of them stated the events were a positive experience and helpful to their families.
