Lorri Galloway is the founder and Executive Director of The Eli Home. She has extended her expertise to local government and was elected to the Anaheim City Council in November 2004, re-elected in 2008, and is a former Mayor Pro Tem. Through Interim shelter, advocacy, and outreach, Eli has benefited thousands of victims since 1983 and received numerous accolades including two Presidential Awards: the 338th Point of Light from former President George Bush and a Presidential Citation from former President Bill Clinton. Lorri’s extensive background and over 41 years of helping families in crisis carried over to her position as an elected official. Her passion and dedication clearly work to improve the lives of the under-served. Lorri helped develop and promote the formation of the Anaheim Family Justice Center. The Anaheim Family Justice Center, which opened October 2006, creates a “one stop shop” for social service needs. She currently works with Anaheim City Council and resort area businesses in dealing with homelessness by addressing root causes through CARP (Children of Addicts Recovery Program), a homelessness prevention program that she created. Within the first year on Council, Lorri adopted a new housing strategic plan. The innovative plan brings over 1200 new affordable housing units to Anaheim. Lorri continues to voice a fervent passion for housing for all income levels and received the Orange County Community Housing Corporation Political Will Award for Affordable Housing in 2007. As a member of the Anaheim City Council, Lorri was known for her business-friendly leadership, and support of business and job growth. This included her support for upgrading the Resort District, increasing the number of hotels, increasing the size of the Anaheim Convention Center, improving transportation modalities, the development of ARTIC (the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center), enhancements to the Honda Center and bringing high end restaurants to Anaheim. She served on the Orange County Transportation Authority, the Transportation Corridor Agency (TCA) and on the Anaheim Transportation Liaison Committee actively working on Anaheim transportation issues as they relate to county, state and federal transportation funding. Lorri was instrumental in creating the Anaheim Performing Arts Committee, working on building a Performing Arts Center in the city of Anaheim that will feature ballet, symphony and musical and performing theater. Among her awards and achievements are: Rancho Santiago College Women of Achievement Award, First Lady of California Community Service Award, National Philanthropy Association Outstanding Founder Award, Orange County Spirit of Volunteerism Award, Orange County Bar Association Liberty Bell Award, Orange County Asian Business Association Community Service Award, and the Orange County Central Labor Council Community Services Award.
