CEO/Executive Director Experience

Jerold Kappel CFRE is a nonprofit executive with expertise in executive management, organizational development, external affairs, board development, project direction and financial management. Kappel directed external affairs for four major nonprofit organizations, supervising fundraising, marketing, and public and government affairs. He coordinated transition of governance from a government owned and managed regional cultural institution to public-nonprofit partnership. Kappel doubled annual giving and increased number of donors by 140% for a major orchestra. He raised funds from international organizations for a hemispheric cultural policy summit and directed that conference. Kappel served as interim CEO for five organizations, receiving the honor of Interim Executive of the year. He served on the Nonprofit Accountability Committee at the Urban Institute advising the IRS on Form 990 , the Greater Washington Society of CPAs on nonprofit financial accounting, worked on developing the Uniform Chart of Accounts, and other nonprofit financial concerns. He was the liaison to the Financial Accounting Standards Board. He has been responsible for over $200 million in contributions for the organizations he has served as CEO or CDO, consultant or board director. He has experience in and deep knowledge of effective philanthropy.
