Project SPEAK
Project SPEAK stands for Survivor Prevention through Education, Awareness and Knowledge. By giving presentations and trainings, Project SPEAK will arm decision makers with the knowledge they need to promote equitable health, education, and treatment of youth In their communities. If we can prevent unnecessary institutionalization, then we can better protect the civil, social, and human rights of youth.
Project SPEAK will create awareness and transparency into the history of the Troubled Teen Industry, the effects that it has on families and relationships, and what communities gain by keeping families together using community-based alternatives.
Survivor Independence Packs
Providing Independence Packs to new survivors who age out of programs and facing homelessness will allow us to empower them with essential tools, information, and helpful guidance on issues they may be naive to due to their time in a facility. Together, these resources will help survivors better re-integrate into society and help them start on their healing journeys. These packs will contain a backpack, hygiene products, a book about the TTI, gift cards, and a laptop preloaded with extensive resources to help guide the survivor as they navigate life outside of the program.
Our goal is provide 35 packs to 18 and 19 year-old survivors who are facing homelessness in 2023. By providing resources to survivors who would have otherwise started their adulthoods with no support, we can empower them to reach their best potential and begin their paths to recovery from trauma. Empowering new survivors may help change their lives and their futures by giving them a sense of belonging to a community to better connect them to resources essential to a healthy and equitable future.
