Vocational Visions
PROGRAMS
Health Related Services (HRS)
This unique and individualized program is designed for adults with Intellectual/Developmental disabilities who also have restricted health conditions. The staff includes 3 full-time LVNs and 1 full-time RN. The program goal is to provide day training activity services, capacity for self-care, encourage self-advocacy, and maximize the opportunity for peer interaction and community integration. New federal regulations will require us to increase community integrated activities for clients in this program. We will enhance this component of our program while still ensuring that we meet the care needs related to their restricted health condition. We also offer sensory stimulation, therapeutic activities, and massage therapy to promote skin health, relaxation of contracted limbs in this program.
It is difficult to identify the metrics to measure success in this program because each of our clients is their own success story. Fewer skin breakdowns, choosing their activities, and opportunities to access the community for learning and recreational activities provide our clients with meaningful days and ultimately a more enjoyable life.
Supported Employment (SE)
Our Supported Employment Program assists our clients with finding jobs. The core services include job development, job placement, and on-going on the job support. The on-going job coaching is essential to job retention. Our job coaches help our clients to learn and understand the social nuances of the workplace, help build natural supports so our clients know who to turn to when they are experiencing problems at work, and as our clients become more independent we fade our job coaching. Integrated employment at a full wage enhances our client's self-esteem and allows them to be more active in their community.
The long term results of this program include increased independence for people with disabilities, wage earners are less reliant on government subsidy programs which saves tax dollars, and employers and community members learn the value of including people with disabilities in all facets of life.
Day Training Activity Center (DTAC) Alambre
The DTAC Alambre program is partially site-based and partially community-based. The program offers interesting leisure activities, instruction in daily living skills, and behavior development skills with a focus on maximum community integration. Vocational Visions provides transportation to and from community sites where learning and recreational activities occur.
Maximum community integrated activities that are self-directed and that offer the opportunity to regularly engage with non-disabled people is the ultimate goal for program participants.
Adult Development Program (ADP)
Our Adult Day Program is 100% community-based. Employment preparation through our Pathways to Employment program, volunteerism, community college classes, and community integrated learning and recreational opportunities are the core activities of this program. 45% of the individuals served in this program are supervised on a 1 to 1 basis, primarily to aid in their employment and paid intern positions. All others are in groups of 1 to 4, volunteering, going to classes, and participating in community activities.
The long-term goal for this program is to enhance the job prospects for our participants through employment preparation, college education and coursework, so that our clients will be employed in full wage jobs.
Emeritus
Our Emeritus Program serves individuals who have chosen not to work as a consequence of age, regression of life-skills, memory loss or declining productivity. The program focuses on skill-retention by offering meaningful learning and recreational opportunities at Vocational Visions facility and in the community.
Because many clients in the Emeritus program are aging or showing signs of dementia the long-term successes are to facilitate skill-retention and safety.
