Background Statement
This organization was inspired by my mother, who was born in Guanajuato, Mexico, and came
to the U.S. at just 2 years old. She carried a deep understanding of life’s journey, was a
voracious reader, and was someone who would literally give the shirt off her back to anyone in
need. She fed the hungry, offered advice to anyone who asked, and stood as the pillar of our
community—a beacon of strength for all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness and wisdom
lives on through her children and through Wings of Kindness / Alas de Bondad , which was
created in her honor.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director
On Friday, December 22nd, 2023, just a few days before Christmas, I experienced the
heartbreaking loss of my mother. She was a woman every single mom could relate to—always
finding a way to provide for her children and grandchildren, no matter the obstacles. Her
passing left an unfillable void, but it also sparked a mission within me to carry on her legacy of
kindness and unwavering support. Despite the grief, I chose to honor our community by
continuing with our first annual Christmas toy drive and giveaway on the day of her passing. It’s
a tradition I remain deeply committed to. I to am a product of a working class single mother and know the struggles she faced to make ends meet. The challenges she faced to request basic aid for my siblings and I to thrive.
