Mission Statement

Radiant Futures builds a safer community by providing crisis support, services for all survivors, and education to prevent domestic violence and trafficking.

Background Statement

Radiant Futures is building a safer community in Orange County. Originally founded as Women’s Transitional Living Center, we were the first domestic violence agency in Orange County and the third in the United States. For over 48 years, we’ve been a committed partner and solid presence in our community. As Radiant Futures, our work continues to evolve as we provide inclusive, comprehensives services to everyone impacted by domestic violence and human trafficking. To build a community free of harm, we also equip our neighbors with education to prevent violence and abuse.

Our organization was founded in 1976 by a local chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) who found the prevalence of domestic violence in our community unacceptable. Born out of an urgent need to protect women who were being physically abused, we started as a 6-bed emergency shelter for women and children. Today, we continue to respond to the needs of our community by offering immediate and long-term support to survivors of all genders and services for people who cause harm. Because it takes a whole community to prevent violence, we also provide education to empower our neighbors to support safety and wellbeing for all.

Today, we serve hundreds of survivors every year and reach thousands more through our education and prevention services. We have served over 200,000 people since our founding in 1976.

Impact Statement

Radiant Futures is grateful for its advocates who volunteer, provide in-kind donations and donate their funds to end the cycle of violence. In the 2022-23 fiscal year, we provided shelter to 398 survivors, their families, and 13 pets, totaling 20,190 bed-nights. We also offered 1,337 counseling sessions to adults and children, amounting to 4,293 hours of mental health services. Our legal advocacy services supported 311 clients, while 75 clients received immigration advocacy services. We educated 1,325 community members, taught 472 survivors, trained 97 professionals on domestic violence and human trafficking, and supervised 248 visits.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director

At Radiant Futures, we envision a future where everyone in our community lives and thrives free from violence and harm, once and for all. This requires a courageous and inclusive approach to service delivery which welcomes all individuals- survivors and those who cause harm. What we have learned over the course of our forty-plus years doing this work is that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to situations of violence or exploitation, and all persons impacted need the space to process and heal. If we are to end the cycle, we must hold steadfast that all persons have the capacity to change, transform, and create safer and healthier lives for themselves and their community.

Each survivor and person who causes harm has different experiences, different priorities, and different needs as they work to reestablish stability for themselves and their family. Because of this, WTLC makes it a priority to provide a wide range of services that can be tailored to each person’s situation—participants choose what support they need according to their individual circumstances. This can include a variety of options, from bridge housing to clinical services to legal advocacy to case management.

Equally important to the work we do with survivors is the work we do in the community to prevent future violence from ever occurring. We truly believe that we can end the cycle of violence and exploitation, but it will take a commitment from each and every one of us. That’s why Radiant Futures works to raise awareness and provide resources for support in schools, businesses, partner organizations, and the community at large. Together we can create a safer society for future generations—one built on respect, tolerance, and a shared responsibility for the well-being of each member of our community.

With appreciation,

Mark Lee
