Meals on Wheels for South Orange County Seniors

The Age Well Senior Services Meals on Wheels program is a volunteer-driven service that provides healthy, satisfying meals to south Orange County residents ages 60 and older who are homebound, unable to prepare meals, are food insecure, and at risk for hunger or malnutrition. Hundreds of volunteers distribute meals from ten senior centers throughout south Orange County directly to the homes of seniors each weekday morning. The program provides breakfast, a hot lunch, and a cold sandwich or frozen meal for the evening. Last year (FY24-25) our Meals on Wheels program delivered 445,848 meals to 1,409 seniors. Volunteers depart from distribution sites at about 10:30 am each weekday morning. Volunteers stop to chat, clean out refrigerators, and assist with simple chores. When appropriate, volunteers note changes in participant appearance, behavior, or living conditions, and report these to Age Well Senior Services staff, or if necessary, to first responders. Our volunteers save lives. About once per month volunteers make emergency calls to first responders because a client has fallen or appears to be in distress. Age Well follows up with clients after such calls to ensure that we know the status of our clients.
