Delta Delta Sigma Pre-Dental Fraternity
OUR STORY
Our vision for this organization is to provide students with community service opportunities and guidance towards a career in dentistry through real world, hands-on experience. As our organization maintains a large emphasis on service and aiding the local community, beginning a student-run free dental clinic strongly aligns with our values. This project will not only be able to enrich our members with valuable experiences, but it will also allow us to help the underprivileged community within Orange County by providing free dental care.
In 2028, we were featured on The Ellen Show during the Million Acts of Good TV Taping and received $33,000 to start our mobile clinic project.
In 2019, we held our first clinic day at the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Ana.
By 2025, we expanded our partnerships to include CalOptima, Aldersgate Methodist Church, Assemblywoman Cottie-Petrie Norris, Irvine Valley College, among others to provide free dental care in Orange County.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to establish a student-run free dental clinic to provide free dental care to the underserved communities of Orange County to help bridge the gap of healthcare and bring students clinical experience in dentistry and service
Background Statement
The goal of Delta Delta Sigma is to provide students with community service opportunities and guidance towards a career in dentistry. We aspire to help students build a strong professional foundation with real world, hands-on experiences such as clinical volunteering, mission trips, and health fairs. We urge our members to value the necessity of serving those in underserved communities while also reinforcing academic integrity on the road towards dental school. Members will have the opportunity to network with dental students, alumni, dental professionals, and fellow pre-dentals. Delta Delta Sigma welcomes all students interested in health care professions to attain exposure to the exciting world of dentistry.
Impact Statement
In the 2023-2024 academic year, our free mobile dental clinic expanded its services to include restorative care, alongside routine exams and cleanings. Through a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Ana, we were able to provide composite fillings to patients in need. Additionally, our free clinic days with community partners like the Tustin Area Senior Center and Irvine Valley College played a crucial role in strengthening our connection with the Orange County community.
Needs Statement
Our organization seeks funding to cover the operating costs of our free mobile dental clinic. Each clinic day requires a budget of $1,000-$2,000 for insurance, supplies, towing, and materials. To meet our goal of hosting at least two clinic days per academic quarter, we need approximately $12,000 annually for standard operational costs. Additionally, we require funds for general maintenance, including technician services, repairs, and emergency reserves. As we expand services to include extractions, we will need new equipment and software, with costs as follows: X-ray sensor ($7,000), computer ($1,000), and patient logging software ($2,000+ annually).
