Higher Ground Youth & Family Services offers a wide range of free programs designed to meet the diverse and evolving needs of Orange County residents. Our holistic approach focuses on addressing the social, emotional, academic, and economic challenges faced by youth and families, providing opportunities for growth, resilience, and long-term stability. Our comprehensive services include: - After-school enrichment programs that offer youth a safe space to engage in creative, physical, and educational activities, including art, music, dance, and sports. - Literacy support that focuses on improving reading comprehension and writing skills to help students achieve academic success. - STEM education to spark curiosity and build critical thinking skills through hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and math. - Counseling and mental health services for both youth and adults, offering individual and family therapy to address trauma, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. - Human Trafficking Prevention Program, which educates youth on the dangers of trafficking, empowers them to recognize signs of exploitation, and equips them with tools to stay safe, while also educating parents and community partners. - Workforce development and career readiness programs, helping teens and young adults develop job skills, explore career pathways, and gain hands-on work experience. - Case management services that provide individualized support to help families navigate challenges related to housing, employment, healthcare, and more. - A food pantry, which will soon expand into the Choice Market, providing not only nutritious food but also access to case management and wraparound support for families experiencing food insecurity.
Since our founding, Higher Ground has made a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands across the community:
- Provided over 1.3 million hours of youth mentorship, helping young people build confidence, develop healthy relationships, and discover their passions.
- Delivered more than 43,000 hours of free counseling and mental health services, supporting youth and families as they navigate emotional and behavioral health challenges.
- Facilitated over 22,000 hours of human trafficking prevention education, reaching thousands of students, parents, and educators with critical safety information.
- Distributed over 600,000 meals to families experiencing food insecurity, ensuring access to healthy, nutritious food.
- Delivered 15,500 hours of literacy programming, helping youth develop strong reading and writing skills necessary for academic and lifelong success.
- Provided over 6,000 hours of parent education and workforce development programming, empowering families to build skills, strengthen relationships, and achieve greater financial stability.
- One of our proudest achievements is the transformation of Lincoln Park — once a known gang hangout — into a safe, welcoming, and vibrant community hub where youth and families gather, learn, and thrive. Today, the park is home to our flagship location, where our programs provide a vital lifeline for local residents and a model for community transformation.
