Mission Statement

Advancing the mission of Hoag through meaningful and inspirational philanthropic partnerships.

Background Statement

Hoag Hospital Foundation is a recognized industry leader and trusted philanthropic partner, playing an integral role in Hoag’s success.

Impact Statement

The Hoag Hospital Foundation advances health care through philanthropy and is an integral partner in Hoag’s vision to become a trusted and nationally recognized health care leader.

Through its institute model, Hoag is a local and national leader in providing specialized health care. The Hoag Family Cancer Institute, Digestive Health Institute, Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart & Vascular Institute, Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute, Hoag Orthopedics Institute, Spine Institute, and Women’s Health Institute embody Hoag’s commitment to ensuring no one has to leave Orange County for advanced care. Philanthropy fuels the continued growth of Hoag’s institutes and specialty programs, positions Hoag to attract the best and brightest clinicians, and helps fuel Hoag’s privademic model, which blends the research strengths of academic medicine with the personalized care of a private health system.

Hoag is currently undergoing a significant expansion with the reimagining of the Sun Family Campus in Irvine. When completed in 2026, the expanded campus’s state-of-the-art specialty buildings, including the Cancer and Digestive Hospital Pavilion, Women’s Hospital Pavilion, and Surgical Pavilion, will empower Hoag to push boundaries and redefine health care delivery.

Currently under development, Hoag’s new CareMar Recovery Center will provide pioneering care for patients with substance use disorders by blending Hoag’s clinical expertise with a holistic and collaborative approach that empowers each patient to thrive.

The community benefit efforts of the Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living (MHSCHL) improve the lives of our community’s most vulnerable. MHSCHL provides culturally sensitive services and resources that enhance health outcomes and partners with more than 35 agencies to provide synergistic services ranging from health education and legal aid to mental health and social support.

Needs Statement

Enhance Hoag’s institutes and privademic model through philanthropically funded innovations, including cutting-edge technology, clinical research, endowed chairs, and specialized fellowship programs that bring academic excellence into Hoag’s dynamic community hospital setting.

Advance Hoag’s vision for world-class care through the Boldly Hoag campaign, supporting the expansion of the Sun Family Campus in Irvine. Boldly Hoag fuels three interconnected initiatives: elevating the patient experience, recruiting and retaining top talent, and designing and building the future of health.

Raise additional philanthropy for Hoag’s CareMar Recovery Center to support the recruitment of dedicated therapists and staff, program development, and scholarships to ensure access to life-changing care is available to all.

Expand Hoag’s community benefit efforts through continued donor support of the Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living.
