CEO/Executive Director Experience
Laura Marcum is an award-winning nonprofit leader with 17 years of experience advancing equity and opportunity for youth. As the first Latina Executive Director of Project Youth OC (PYOC), she is leading the organization through a new era of growth, deepening partnerships, expanding services, and sharpening its prevention-first approach to reach more than 1,500 youth annually. In her first year at PYOC, Laura increased revenue by 21%, launched a culturally responsive caregiver program (Familias Fuertes), and implemented the agency’s first strategic framework. Under her leadership, PYOC was selected as one of only two nonprofits to lead Brea’s Break the Habit initiative, addressing substance use and mental health at the community level. Previously, Laura served as Chief Operating Officer at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and the Inland Empire, where she expanded programs to 4,000 youth, and earned back-to-back recognition as a Best Place to Work. Across every role, she combines vision, operational rigor, and a deep belief in the power of community to create change. Her impact has been recognized with several honors, including Women of the Year Honoree by Congressman Correa’s Office, Orange County Grantmakers Changemaker of the Year, and a 40 Under 40 Honoree by the Greater Irvine Chamber.
