Patrol Base Abbate’s premier program is called Return To Base or RTB. Loss of community and feelings of disconnectedness are the leading causes of suicide in the veteran community. Patrol Base Abbate’s RTB program creates community as a preventative mechanism by combining the two very strong points of commonality; military service and intrinsic interests. The RTB program gathers veterans and active duty service members from all branches and backgrounds who have interest in pursuing the same hobby or activity, organized into interest based clubs. The five day program is hosted at our property in the healing isolation of northwest Montana, allowing our members to disconnect while reconnecting to nature, themselves, and each other. Each day begins with yoga and meditation followed by the pursuit of that club’s particular interest. Each day concludes with fireside chats, a guided discussion to share challenges, celebrate accomplishments, and explore their future purpose in the community of fellows. Our programs incorporate a service component into every program as well. The service project, spread out over each day or dedicating one afternoon, allows the members to give back, either by working on the property or partnering with the local community to serve a specific need.
