Peace and Justice Law Center

Our mission is to to make our community safer while ensuring equal protection under the law

We are a nonprofit, public interest law firm serving Orange County. We believe that civil rights and public safety do not need to be tension with one another. Just the opposite, they are mutually reinforcing. Our work focuses on ending unconstitutional policing and discriminatory prosecutions, while at the same time supporting people who are leaving behind gangs and crime.

Our top accomplishments so far: rewriting the state's anti-gang law, requiring the Orange County District Attorney to share Racial Justice Act data and to end gang injunctions, and being chosen by the Board of State and Community Corrections to offer comprehensive legal aid to people exiting gangs. Our top three goals right now: supporting the count-wide gang peace truce, a robust implementation of the Racial Justice Act in Orange County, and to double our attorney staff.

Our most pressing need is capacity development.
