Mission Statement
Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties provides confidential, affordable, high-quality reproductive health care and fights for your fundamental right to determine your own destiny. We believe that respect and value for diversity in all aspects of our work are essential, and enable you to make responsible and informed choices through comprehensive, honest sex education and health information.
Background Statement
When a group of concerned Orange County visionaries gathered in 1965, they created the groundwork to provide women and men with reproductive education and medical care. Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has provided care to this community for over 50 years, broadening our scope of services to include primary care and the seeing patients seven days a week. Thanks to our supporters, this affiliate has distinguished itself as a pillar of quality reproductive health care for women, men, and families.
Impact Statement
While the Coronavirus pandemic has upended many industries, thanks to our hardworking staff, PPOSBC was able to act quickly and nimbly and remained focused on our mission to serve more patients with high-quality, affordable, non-judgmental care than ever before. Thanks to this ingenuity, we pioneered telehealth services and health centers quickly pivoted to offer in-center visits as well as no-touch medical visits to ensure patient and staff safety. Additionally, our Health Education and WIC teams both went virtual as well.
Our innovative Drive-Thru service delivery model also allowed for no-touch prescription pickup so patients could safely get needed medication while reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection.
Telehealth and Drive-Thru services quickly accounted for over 55% of total visits, demonstrating the desire for convenient, safe, quality care.
We are proud to offer exceptional care and education to everyone; regardless of insurance, immigration status, ability to pay, or even pandemic. No one is turned away and our doors remain open to all.
Our nine health centers open are 7 days a week, 10 hours a day located in Orange and San Bernardino Counties: Through dedicated staff and state-of-the-art technology, patient wait times have been reduced significantly and the patient experience has been enhanced. Our current wait time averages 20 minutes and appointments are less than an hour. Also, our patients can now access their information through an online portal that securely stores their history, medication(s), and lab results. Our award-winning breast health program became the model for Planned Parenthoods nationwide.
Needs Statement
We never deny a patient medical care due to lack of insurance or inability to pay; instead, we absorb the cost as charity care as a commitment to our community. Pre-pandemic, our charity care totaled over $2M. Despite this, we have continued to provide no-cost services to patients who need them. As of June 30, 2021, our charity care total has risen to an astounding $2.6M, which reflects how the community is relying on our vital services during this health crisis.
Since the shelter-in-place mandates were instituted in mid-March 2020, all nine of our health centers have remained open, serving patients seven days a week, for ten hours each day. In order to adhere to physical distancing protocol, we quickly pivoted to a virtual healthcare platform, which allowed us to serve our community while maintaining patient-staff safety.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director
Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, on average our health centers were exceeding projected patient volume by 7% and surpassing year-over-year volume by 9%. Even with this large increase in visits, we were able to expand to meet the needs of our communities while maintaining quality service measures, keeping our 98% patient satisfaction rating, and continuing our better-than-industry average wait times.
As the coronavirus outbreak forced needed safety measures and a shelter-in-place mandate, patient volume dropped nearly 40%. To adapt, health centers quickly pivoted to offer in-center visits as well as telehealth and Drive-Thru options. Additionally, our Health Education and WIC teams both went virtual as well. Our innovative Drive-Thru service delivery model also allowed for no-touch prescription pickup so patients could safely get needed medication while reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection.
Telehealth and Drive-Thru services quickly accounted for over 33% of total visits, demonstrating the desire for convenient, safe, quality care.
While the coronavirus pandemic has upended many industries, thanks to our hardworking staff, PPOSBC was able to act quickly and nimbly and remained focused on our mission to serve more patients with high-quality, affordable, non-judgmental care than ever before. Thanks to this ingenuity, we are excited to be back in a stable position, hitting our projected patient volume forecast.
We are proud to offer exceptional care and education to everyone; regardless of insurance, immigration status, ability to pay, or even pandemic. No one is turned away and our doors remain open to all. - Jon Dunn, CEO
Statement from the Board Chair/President
Philanthropy builds relationships. Our extraordinarily passionate supporters are among our greatest strengths as an organization. Our patients turn to us because of the spirit of confidential, compassionate care that we exemplify in everything we do, but nearly two-thirds of them have no other health care provider, making it challenging for us to help them improve their health and wellbeing through limited reproductive health-focused care. Philanthropy will make the difference in our ability to pursue our mission and ensure that our communities can count on high-quality care, no matter what.
